Il race you dave
Mofo, its not mint by any means just nice and tidy...plus that was the last time i painted the bay 2 1/2 years back
Getting there mate
another day another foot of rain so i managed to get a few hours in
i have taken the the offside strut tower off completely, it will need some small repairs to the bay before refitting.
and the chassis rail will need a little "patch" as well
i modded the top pan the same as the n/s to help it reach the good metal.
cut the creased bit out
and cut some matching 1mm steel to form the extension
held in place with intergrips
welded from inside mainly
and from the front once dressed back
it looks a decent fit in this shot but needs a lot more work to fit properly
Looking good
cheers dave, it all helps moral
and the phone pics make it look better than it actually is
Looks a nice job from over here
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
Been there, done that
Keep at it, you're doing a great job

1969 'Big Wing' MK1 Escort
1972 MK3 Cortina 1600XL
1984 Sierra XR4i
And other junk I don't like to talk about!
looks like its gona be a while before that zetec fires up mate.. keep at it though it'll be worth it.
small update...........
front chassis needed a repair before the under wing tower could go on,
i didnt get one of it chopped out but heres the inner layer going in ....
and all zingad ready for outer plate....
it was nice to bump the amps up and fry the zinga for a change
more tomorrow i hope...................
managed to get this little bit sewn up
cut some more repair plates
and put the 1st 2 in
made some plates to close the ends off, i liked this one
then dressed and zinga to finish.........
zinga is ideal for putting inside the rail on bits like this, ive run out now so theres another ££££££££ order to frost looming
Nice work as always
Also for the zinga try the bloke i got my last lot from, www.ruststopshop.com i think his name is dennis. Pretty sure he was a fair bit cheaper thats why i went with him
Looking good mate, some nice repair work there.
What you need now is an ST170 engine for it
Tell Rob to get that garage built, so he can get on with the RS!
very nice bit of work
Nice job on those panels Did you get the bends on the fiddly one right first time, or did it take a few visits from Mr Hammer???
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
it was easy in practice i guess i got lucky 1st time.
tho to be honest i think its supposed to have the bottom folded out all the way to the overlap but i got excited and snipped it of in my hurry trim the curved bit in
well ive done a bit but its mostly been cleaning up ive used a s/h top pan on the o/s as its been replaced in the past and it took a lot of tidying up..... then i cleaned up a lot of the under bay while the supports were off, i tried the "halfords wheel" for the 1st time and was v.impressed
anyway, got the one upright on
then 2
then the pan in before time called.
a quick try of the top looks promising
well the top went on without too much grief, but then it should by this stage
this indent was repaired using the bit i cut out of the other side
all patched in
just needs a tidy up next.......
It's coming along mate.
the dodgy looking welding above is due to it being done from the back....... honest
last bit sorted, dressed it back and put some zinga on untill i see it again
front of bays and bubble next me thinks, but should i try and repair the bubble or put a nice cutout for a coilpack
Looking very good
GavinR

I swear i can here this poor mk1 shouting "work on me work on me" even from Lincoln . Pull your finger out and enjoy the mk1 resto bandwagon that seems to be happening at the mo!
Real men do it Sideways
my fault for telling people to read the resto section for inspiration, ive been doing the "quick mk2 4 door resto" . which isnt quick at all but i have to say that the more i do and the more times i manage to get to shows etc I WANT A MK1
Top man keep going
Any progress since???
no tho tbh i only have time for one and at the moment its the mk2 project.
as soon as its usable on the road then im back on the mk1
Cracking project, some really good work there. Keep plugging away it will be worth it in the end
i have bought 2 new inner wings - is that progress ?
